Doncaster Deaf Trust Children's Home(s) is operational 7 days a week, 365 days of the year and run by a highly trained and dedicated team.
Each employee is NVQ 3 qualified in Children and Young People, has British Sign Language (BSL) Certificate Level 2 (or is working towards it) and has regular safeguarding training.
The team, which includes deaf and hearing members, are also trained in key subjects including Health and Safety, administration of medicines, diabetes, food hygiene and manual handling. Training helps create an environment of learning, which keeps everyone - including the young residents - motivated and challenged.
Staff turnover at Dickson House and the North flat are minimal, which helps provide continuity for our young residents. The team is made up of a full-time Registered Manager supported by a deputy manager, 3 Shift Leaders and 6 Residential Care Workers, including 1 Waking Night Staff. The Home also has access to a wide range of professional staff employed by the Trust, including an on-site nurse, an Audiologist and Speech Therapist.
At least 2 members of staff are on duty during the day and usually 3 during evening shifts, with consideration given to gender balance wherever possible. Nights are covered by a Waking Night Staff member plus one duty worker. Staffing rotas are arranged flexibly to meet the needs of the children and young people in our care.
