Doncaster Deaf Trust Children's Homes provides residential care 38 or 52 weeks of the year for school children needing weekly or full-time accommodation while they study at Doncaster School for the Deaf.
Dickson House can provide accommodation for up to nine children with sensory impairments. The house is a large six bedded family home in the grounds of the Trust, with the addition of a three bed flat as part of the registration. Dickson House has a variety of spacious communal areas including a play room with access to computers and games, a TV lounge, dining room, kitchen and a garden.
The North Flat is a first floor flat located above the school building. The North Flat can accommodate up to three young people helping them to develop their independent living and social skills during their transition into adulthood.
The young residents also have access to a wide range of facilities that are available on site such as six acres of playing fields, as well as football pitches, tennis courts and a sports hall.
The Home aims to provide each child or young person with an individually designed care programme, enabling them to develop skills and maximise their potential by getting involved in a range of activities in a stimulating, positive and safe environment.
Our aims:
- To provide high quality care and support to children and young people, especially those with sensory impairment, within a nurturing and caring environment.
- To meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each child staying at the Home.
- To provide access to quality educational provision.
- To promote opportunities to develop independent living skills and form social relationships.
- To facilitate the development of language and communication skills.
- To ensure a safe, supportive and caring environment.
Creating a family-based environment in Dickson House and the North Flat is fundamental, and allows children to grow and develop in a safe and secure environment. Staff are committed to promoting positive outcomes for the young residents.
Partnerships with parents, professionals and carers allow our young people to access a range of support, resources and facilities in their local community.
We want to empower our young people to make informed decisions about their lives, by taking responsibility for and participating fully in all aspects of their care and education.
