A pupil from Doncaster School for the Deaf has won a part in a popular BBC series.
Lili Dixon from Bentley, Doncaster, saw a flyer from the Articulate Drama School and agency saying they were looking for a young Deaf girl to star in a BBC series.
Her mum Maria, who works at Doncaster School for the Deaf in residence, said: “Lili saw the flyer and wanted to give it a go so we applied and she went through a number of interview questions and submitted a video of her signing using British Sign Language (BSL).
“Earlier this month we got the fantastic news that she had been accepted and she has already been to do some filming.
“On her first day Lili was very nervous but she was excited too and it was great for her to learn how it all worked, costume and makeup, the scenes, how everything and everyone was positioned. She was made to feel very welcome.”
Lili, who also attends CAST theatre school in Doncaster would love to work in film or theatre and sees this as her first step into the industry.
Lili said: “I have made some new friends already and there is a strong awareness of the Deaf culture.
“I’m really excited about my upcoming sessions and seeing how the storyline unfolds.”
Jane Goodman, headteacher at Doncaster School for the Deaf said: “We are all very proud of Lili and what she has achieved. We work hard in school to show our pupils that they can achieve great things and Lili is a fantastic example of this.
“We can’t say more about the series she is appearing in at the moment but when we can we’ll be encouraging everyone to watch it.”
