Mobile phone giant O2 helps to keep students with communication difficulties connected with employability skills 

Students in Doncaster have benefitted from a series of workshops focusing on phone security, mobile apps and employability skills thanks to O2.


The students at Communication Specialist College Doncaster, who are Deaf, hard of hearing or have communication difficulties, have learned from Mark Skelton and his team at O2 who have run a series of mock interviews and O2’s Guru Team who have visited the site and delivered information about all things mobile.


Stacey Betts, assistant principal at Communication Specialist College Doncaster, part of Doncaster Deaf Trust, said: “We’ve worked with O2 collaboratively over the past year to provide our students with opportunities to develop their employability skills.


“We started working with O2 in 2017 when our team delivered Deaf Awareness training to the O2 staff team. The feedback from the training was excellent and O2 wanted to give something back to the college by offering their support. 


“Since then O2 Guru’s have delivered workshops to our students allowing students to ask questions about phone security, find out about useful apps, get help with problems they need solving and all other things mobile phone related.”


Mark Skelton, from O2 and his colleagues took the time to carry out three rounds of Mock Interviews for students, as part of their City and Guilds Employability course.


“This has been invaluable for our students as they have had the opportunity to put their interview skills to the test with real employers. The interviewers were very positive about the experience and the skills shown by our students in their mock interviews.


“We’d like to thank Mark, Linda Jones, Shelley Race and Fran Reay for their support, it is very much appreciated by the staff and students at Communication Specialist College,” added Stacey.
