Information for employers

How can you help?

Industry Visits
You could offer our students a chance to visit your place of work for an Industry Visit. Industry Visits are really beneficial as many of our students have not experienced work before and don't know what a 'work place' looks like. Having the opportunity to see different places of work can inspire and educate our students. Visits are typically two hours duration, we only require a guide, as communication support is provided by our own staff.

Work Experience
You could offer Work Experience. We usually ask employers for half a day a week for a minimum of six weeks. Students are often supported by a member of staff from CSCD, as most of our students do require communication support, when out at work experience. You will be supported by the work experience nteam, who are on hand to answer any questions.

Supported Internship
A supported internship is a one-year course and runs during term-time, four days a week, two days at college and two days with an employer. At the end of the programme individuals will be supported to search for jobs, apply for jobs and go to interviews. The aim of a supported internship is to support learners with a disability into paid full-time or part-time employment. This is done through a work placement based at the employer's premises and studying towards appropriate qualifications - such as English and maths.

Your support would be hugely appreciated by our students and feedback from employers we currently work with is that having students in the work place has a positive effect on staff morale.
