More than 50 people from 14 countries are heading Doncaster for the three day celebration of Spread Share, a European project.

The event, which will take place on June 13 – 15, is being hosted by Doncaster Deaf Trust, who are the UK partners for the project.

Bobbie Roberts, chair of Trustees at Doncaster Deaf Trust said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming our friends from across the globe to Doncaster for this celebration of the work that has taken place over many years.

“The Trust started working with Spread the Sign in 2006 and we have helped to develop this free online web tool which now features more than 20 different sign languages with over 300,000 signs and is supported by a Spread the Sign App which can be downloaded.   Signs are shown as video clips on  and this is a fantastic resource for Deaf people wishing to travel or work abroad or for hearing people wanting to learn sign language.

“Next week’s celebration is the final meetings of Spread Share/Spread Lesson which is a continuation of the work of Spread the Sign, this project has further developed the Google Map feature and includes signed videos of European cities towns, national landmarks and places of historical interest.

“The work that we’ve all been undertaking will be invaluable to Deaf people from across the globe and will open up more opportunities for people to travel and work abroad.” helps thousands of people every day to find the sign they are searching for and is also available in smartphones under the name of Spread signs.

Alan Robinson, executive principal of Doncaster Deaf Trust said: “It is a real honour to be hosting this celebration event.

“We’ll be working with our European partners to discuss next steps for the project and explore funding opportunities to make sure that this valuable work can continue to develop.”
