Five-Star Success for Doncaster Deaf Trust Students Our enterprising students at Communication Specialist College Doncaster, part of Doncaster Deaf Trust, have made 130 wooden cutlery holders to order for the five-star Grand Hotel and Spa, York. The Grand Hotel and Spa, York, the only AA five-star rated hotel in Yorkshire, ordered the items of carpentry from the student-run Enterprise Store. The cutlery blocks are now being used in the hotel’s new restaurant – The Rise – which opened on June 1. The Rise is an all-day dining destination offering a modern menu of seasonal small plates, as well as larger dishes, hand-selected drinks, afternoon tea, breakfast, and live music on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This is the first major sale for the students at the Enterprise Store, they sell online, in the onsite store and at craft fairs across the region, but this commissioned order has really given them a boost. Bobbie Roberts, chair of trustees at Doncaster Deaf Trust, said: “We are so proud of the students here for making these products so high quality that an establishment as prestigious as The Grand would want to commission them. “We never had any doubt that they could do it, we’re just so happy to see all their hard work coming to fruition. We’re sure that thus will be the first of many such orders, their Christmas reindeer have already become legendary in the town and sell out as quickly as they can make them!” Craig Atchinson, head chef at The Rise, said: “We’re thrilled with the results of our work with Doncaster Deaf Trust. The cutlery blocks are a perfect addition to The Rise, which has been designed to be a unique and vibrant destination. We’re looking forward to showing them off to visitors enjoying our small plates concept for years to come.” Many other high quality wooden witlings can be bought online from the Doncaster Deaf Trust’s Enterprise Store, with everything from tea light holders to garden chairs available.
