Doncaster Deaf Trust's Enterprise Project, sponsored by the People's Postcode Lottery, is going from strength to strength. The Postcode Community Trust is a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. They awarded the Trust £20,000 in September 2016 to launch an Enterprise project.

The project markets and sells wooden garden and household ornaments made by students as a part of their Trades vocational training. The students get extra marks for making different products and are then able to add retail and other work related skills to their knowledge and experience, which greatly assists the students in securing employment. Marketing and promotion, photography, customer service, taking payment and giving change and using a till - are just some of the skills learned.

Local people  been given the opportunity to become volunteers for the project, assisting in making some of the products and/or working in the Enterprise shop, giving them real and valuable employment skills as well as improving their confidence and self-esteem.

Over the Christmas period, the project sold more than £4,000 of products, mainly from Christmas Fairs held locally at the Mount Pleasant Hotel and the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

The products were so popular that students have been invited back to both events this year. All stock was sold and the most popular product by far were the wooden reindeers which come in different sizes. Many people came back to purchase different sizes to create their own personal reindeer family.

The People's Postcode Lottery have given us fantastic support and in turn, deserve your support so that they may, in turn, support other charitable causes. Please visit their website at www.postcodecommunitytrust.org.uk
