Doncaster Deaf Trust announces new interim chair Marek Gutowski, who has had a long career in banking and finance, will take up the role immediately leading the board of trustees at the specialist education provider. Marek spent the majority of his career working for HSBC in a number of roles across South Yorkshire and latterly in Hull, London and Leeds. Since retiring he has concentrated his efforts on putting something back into Doncaster - the town where he was born, educated, and has lived for the past 58 years. Marek, who has a wife Gill and two daughters, is also a trustee at Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust. Marek said: “It is a real honour to be the interim Chair for this excellent organisation. I have been involved with the Trust since November 2018 and was elected Deputy Chair in February this year. “I agreed with the previous Chair Bobbie Roberts that I would step into the role until a permanent replacement is found for her. Bobbie has certainly made a huge mark on the Trust and it is therefore important that we find the right replacement who can continue the great work she has done. “In the interim, my role will be to support Alexis Johnson as Executive Principal and the rest of the senior management team and staff, in conjunction with our excellent Board of Trustees, in continuing to provide class leading provision to our young people in education, vocational training and life skills. “The last few months have been extremely challenging, but the future looks very promising and I’m excited to be working with Alexis and his team at this time.” Alexis Johnson, executive principal of Doncaster Deaf Trust said: “Marek has been a trustee of Doncaster Deaf Trust for nearly two years now and we are delighted that he will be stepping up into the role of interim chair. “He brings with him a wealth of experience that is of huge benefit to the work we are doing here at Doncaster Deaf Trust as we look to enhance the service we provide for young people who are deaf and have other communication needs. I thoroughly enjoy working with Marek and am really looking forward to this new chapter for the Trust.” Doncaster Deaf Trust’s mission is to advance education, training and care for Deaf and hearing-impaired children, adults and those with communication or learning difficulties. The Trust manages Little Learners Day Nursery, Doncaster School for the Deaf, Communication Specialist College Doncaster and a Children’s Home, at its site on Leger Way.
