The Employment Liaison Department is based within the College and supports students in all vocational and training areas. It has three experienced and dedicated members of staff who have a range of employment sector skills.

The team provides practical guidance and support to help students plan their career path and prepare for the world of work, when they leave College to seek employment or go onto Higher Education or Further Training. An integral part is the opportunity for students to have valuable employment experiences where they can practice some of the knowledge and skills they have acquired at College.

Gaining practical experience can be achieved by carrying out a variety of local industrial visits and completing short term work experience placements. Placements are arranged on a local or national basis with companies/organisations that can offer structured quality placements to ensure they meet the students individual needs.

Before the placement, a member of the College team will visit the employer to ensure that they can offer a safe working environment, the correct supervision and meet the welfare needs of the student. The team also carryout Health and Safety appraisals to check regulations are met and adhered to. Employers also receive guidance and information and coping strategies for each individual learner.

Work experience remains one of the best ways for our students to secure employment and every year students are offered permanent work contracts following successful placements.

The Employment Liaison team also deliver a comprehensive job preparation programme to help arm students with all the necessary tools, experience and confidence required to successfully apply for and maintain employment. The office has an open door policy where students can access assistance at anytime from the team where support and guidance is offered on a variety employment and careers issues.

Transition planning remains a very important part of a students journey and the Employment Liaison team play a valuable role in this by offering guidance, support and sign posting to other professionals within the College, as well as outside where strong links have been established with external professional organisations.
