Spread the Sign offers a fantastic
opportunity for people with hearing
and communication problems to
learn the correct sign language for a country they are visiting, or looking to find employment in. Experts from across Europe have researched and filmed the correct signage and uploaded to this unique website.
Whether you are a hearing impaired pupil/student, or a teacher/tutor to the hearing impaired, Spread the Sign provides:
-
An opportunity for vocational deaf pupils/students to learn another language
-
A valuable resource for teachers/tutors of the deaf
-
An advanced vocational dictionary for most occupations
-
A communications facility for deaf people so they don’t have to spell
-
Increase mobility between countries
Spread the sign was initiated in 2005 by Social Science teacher Thomas Lydell-Olsen from the Swedish National Upper Secondary School for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired in Örebro. It is constantly being updated and currently includes 9 languages and over 18 vocational areas.
Spread the Sign is an award winning initiative, awards include 'Best Project for Nonprofit Entity for Citizens' by Fundetec in Spain and ‘Best Practice 2010 Award’ by the EU Commission in Barcelona.
Spread the sign is also available on the Android market and iStore as an application called "Spread signs" with BSL.
