A few of your questions answered!

What happens if my child is poorly?

We have a trained nurse on-site Monday-Friday, and have contact with a local GP who can visit anytime. All staff in Dickson House are trained in Advanced First Aid and are able to administer prescribed medication. Parents will be notified that their child is unwell and if it is necessary arrange for them to be sent home.

How much money do I send with my child for the week?

The maximum amout each child can have is £10. Every Thursday there is a planned activity after school so money will be needed for that. All the money is kept in a safe in the office and your child has to ask when they need some. As they mature, money can be kept in a safe in their bedrooms.

What activities can they do?

We have excellent on-site sporting facilities which provide opportunities for football, basketball, cricket, tennis and athletics. We also have an indoor swimming pool. We also have a leisure complex close-by where activities such as swimming, ice-skating, bowling and much more is on offer.

What's the routine in Dickson House after school?

When school is finished the children come back to the house and get changed out of their school uniform, they have a sit and talk about their day in school before tea, once tea is over they will have a chance to do their homework before doing any activities

What time is bedtime?

This depends on the age of the child, but they start to go to bed from 8pm and the latest is 10pm

Can they bring computer games, play stations, TVs for their room?

Yes, they can bring whatever they want from home, all we ask is that parents insure the items. None of the bedrooms have Internet access

What clothing should they bring?

They should bring at least a couple of changes of clothes for after school, and if they stay for the weekend, it is important that they have night clothes plus dressing gown and slippers. If the fire alarm goes off at night or there is a practise alarm they will need to put suitable clothing on.

Can I make contact with my child?

Yes, you can ring, text, email, or minicom to speak to your child at anytime during the week. If you would like to speak to a member of staff, we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
