Pupils take to the coast for lesson with a difference
06 Feb 2012
Pupils from a Doncaster specialist school swapped the classroom for the seaside for a special learning project.

Four pupils aged 7 - 9 years from the Doncaster Deaf School, visited Flamborough Head as part of a combined Geography and Literacy lesson, to bring their school learning to life.
They have been reading the ‘Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ in Literacy lessons and studying the names of coastal features in Geography.
Rebecah Taylor, primary teacher at the Doncaster Deaf School said: “The day went very well and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the lighthouse in the morning and experimenting on the beach in the afternoon.
“They recognised the names of the features as soon as they set foot on the bay and were amazed to discover that the chalk, sometimes used in school, was made from the same type of chalk in the cliffs around them!”
The Deaf School regularly organises educational visits to assist with pupils with learning back on the Trust's campus.
Alan Robinson, Executive Principal at the Doncaster Deaf Trust, said: “Our pupils get as much out of learning outside the classroom as they do in it. It was great to hear about how much fun they all had on their trip but also just how much they learnt too.
“The pupils represented the school very well indeed and should be proud of themselves.”
