New HR Manager for the Trust

12 Aug 2010

Doncaster Deaf Trust has appointed a new Human Resources manager with over 25 years experience.

Phil Carter, 52, takes on a wide range of executive responsibilities at the Deaf Trust for general management of all staff.  Phil, who alongside his extensive HR generalist experience also specialises in change management and personal development within an organisation, overcame stiff competition to land the role - surviving a rigorous interview and assessment process.

He joins from Hull-based civil engineering company C Spencer Ltd and has spent the majority of his career in the manufacturing and engineering sectors – most recently in the rail, construction and civil engineering industries.

Originally from Manchester but now living in Conisbrough, Doncaster, Phil said: “Due to the knock-on effect of the global downturn in construction and civil engineering, I was made redundant in April and in contemplating my next role I decided to try something completely different.

“As an educational and caring environment, the Deaf Trust is much more suited to my personal style and nature so I can’t wait to get started. It is a wonderful place with a proud history and I am so pleased that I now have the opportunity to contribute to the future success of the organisation.

“With my extensive knowledge and experience of HR, I am confident I can make a major contribution to the HR function both on a strategic and operational level.”

In his spare time, Phil is a School Governor at two schools in the Conisbrough area. He also has a passion for music, the creative arts and photography. Phil regularly photographs festivals and concerts around the country as the resident snapper. He is also a keen fan of rugby union and is a member at Doncaster RUFC.

Bobbie Roberts, chair of Doncaster Deaf Trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome someone with Phil’s impressive experience to the Deaf Trust and I’m sure he will be a valuable asset to the team.”

Phil is married to Jayne and has two children, Elizabeth, 19, and Matthew, 10.
